I've got a few nifty posts in the works but a heavy workload this week means that for now you'll just have to be satisfied with the latest batch of photos I'm sharing over at Flickr, including these rockin' rocket toothbrushes!

A Mighty Oak in the Making

Friend, multi-talented artisan and all-around swell kid Little Acorn has shared a few quick shots from an amazing found foto flea market find on her increasingly excellent blog. But don't stop there! Be sure to browse over her past posts for some warm and fuzzy, mouth-watering, wonderfully informative and just plain fun readin'.

"Elementary my dear Gerry!"

Six new vintage reader illustrations from Canadian favourite Gerry Lazare are up at my Flickr right now. Included among them is this wonderful full page acrylic painting from "Sherlock Holmes and the Red Headed Leaugue ( A Radio Play )".
After taking a look why not stop by Gerry's website at www.lazarestudio.com/.

New Know!

Hey! I almost forgot to let everyone know that the latest issue of swell kid's Science mag Know hit the stands a week or two ago. This issue's theme is Australian Animals and features my regular Know Fun puzzles and fun two-page feature.

Know is the sibling publication of Yes Mag, an equally edifying venture for the slightly older crowd that has featured many of my doodles in the past. Be sure to give them a look.

On a related front I just found out that Yes Mag was featured ( sort of ) in an episode of the popular CTV television program Corner Gas not too long ago. Here's the link for the whole story but in the meantime enjoy this screen shot sneak peek!

39 going on 9

Okay, so I admit it. Somewhere deep within my grizzled, jaded, thirty-nine year-old self is still a nine year old Star Wars Freak. In the late 1970s being called a "Star Wars Freak" ( as was the custom of the time - said in a Gran'pa Simpsons voice with an onion on your belt! ) meant you loved Star Wars. Lived Star Wars. Considered yourself an expert even. I spent a great deal of my childhood drawing Star Wars ( and later Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers and others ) related scenes. Even now and again outright copying them! So Splinter of the Mind's Eye, the novel pictured above ( in a ball point pen version by nine year old me ), the first official Star Wars book sequel, was an understandable target of my blue-capped Bic.
I grew out of my Star Wars obsession in the early 80s ( Return of the Jedi had a lot to do with it! ) and I moved on to other things. Luckily though, a number of Kid Glen space movie drawings have survived the last thirty years - the latest batch of which you can find over at Flickr.
You have been warned.

Etienne Morel that is. Wonderful colour use, great design work, and stylization galore - what more could you ask for? You know the drill - click here to start the fun!

It's That Time Again!

No, not Fall ( unless you're in Australasia maybe? ) ... but time to remind you to check out my latest batch o' Flickr goodies over at the self-same sight. Included this time around, amongst others, are three swell animation-background-like illos by future award-winning TV commercial director Robert Wilvers!
( and who says you don't learn anything here?! )
